Safari Tours owner Jerry
Dale has been organizing and conducting safaris into sub-Saharan
Africa since 1972. Jerry continues to escort most of the safaris
as they number well over 150 and counting. Since his initial
safari experience in Kenya over 33
years ago, Jerry has extended the safaris to include all of
the noted wildlife areas in the sub-Saharan regions of Africa.
The safaris have him travelling repeatedly into the wildlife
areas of Kenya and Tanzania; mountain
gorilla trekking in the forests
of Rwanda and Uganda; traveling into
the remote regions of the Okavango Delta, Botswana,
South Luangwa, Zambia and Liwonde,
Malawi; following the dusty animal
trails in Etosha, Namibia; hiking
among the great archaeological discoveries and game parks of
Zimbabwe; and enjoying the natural
and spectacular beauty of South Africa
and their game parks.
Jerry previously worked in the South African wine business
during the early 1990's, thus by taking advantage of his wine
experience and contacts in the wine regions, Safari Tours now
conduct wine tasting visits into
South Africa's beautiful wine country. As an avid sports fan
and former National League Baseball Umpire, Jerry has added
golf tours in South Africa, Namibia,
Zimbabwe and Kenya as part of the Safari Tours travel programs.
Jerry's baseball umpiring career encompassed 23 years during
which time he umpired in the major leagues during the 1970 to
1986 seasons. During the baseball off-seasons he served as a
teacher in elementary schools, junior high schools and high
schools. Later he served as a member of the faculty at Cal Poly
University in Pomona, California between 1978-1982. At Cal Poly
University he earned the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science
degrees and was named Distinguished Alumnus from the School
of Arts in 1982. He received his Doctorate degree from Pepperdine
University's School of Education and Psychology in 1985. Jerry
continues to be an avid wildlife photographer and is as comfortable
in the African bush as he is on a golf course or in the vineyards.
