Your safari will be the most exciting and
rewarding travel experience of your life. "Going on safari" conjures
up visions of a train of porters led by an intrepid hunter, or
of elaborately appointed camps established in the wilder areas
of the country. Not any longer! In Swahili, the word "safari"
means journey. Your journey is by modern safari land cruisers,
safari mini-vans and open land rovers for superb game viewing
and photographic opportunities.
Vast areas of the many wildlife countries
in sub-Saharan Africa have been set aside as national parks, game
reserves and sanctuaries, where an infinite variety of wildlife
can be seen, studied and photographed in its natural habitat.
While there are some remote regions where you can participate
in night game drives, for the most part you will do your major
game viewing in the early morning and late afternoons, the best
time of the day to see and photograph the animals. In whatever
wildlife region you travel to, you'll find yourself in the middle
of the most spectacular scenery imaginable--an incredible montage
of animal and birdlife passing continuously before your eyes.
You'll feel the thrill of being part of the
greatness of nature. Being able to photograph a towering giraffe
silhouetted against an orange sky. Witnessing a horizon dotted
with thousands of wildebeest, cape buffalo and zebra while marveling
at the immeasurable sweep of the Masai
Mara in Kenya; the towering snow-capped
Mount Kilimanjaro
rising majestically above the plains in Tanzania;
the quiet but heavily populated wildlife regions of the Okavango
Delta in Botswana; gaze in awe at
the number of hippo and crocodile that crowd most rivers in the
wildlife regions of Malawi and Zambia's
Luangwa Valley; see the diversity of wildlife as it meanders through
much of the desolate regions of Etosha in Namibia;
viewing herds of elephants in some of Zimbabwe's
game parks that will stagger even the most experienced safari
traveler. Listen to the sounds of Africa: a lion roaring at dusk,
an elephant trumpeting at dawn. Take in the tranquil solitude
of an African night, as you gaze in awe at millions of stars flickering
brightly in an ink-black sky.
Come to Africa. It is an experience that will
stay with you a lifetime. It will capture your imagination and
your heart and rekindle the adventurous spirit that lives in us
all.
